Diabetes is a group of diseases that occur when a person's body accumulates too much glucose (sugar) in the blood. This can lead to major chronic health problems, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease, and nerve damage.

This chart shows crude percent to allow comparison across time. As of 2024, 10% of Minnesota adults were living with diabetes. Many cases are diagnosed each year, for example, an estimated 24,000 new cases were diagnosed in 2018.

Source: Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). Data are for adults age 18 and over. Data from 2011 and later should not be compared to data from previous years due to a change in survey methods.
