People who are severely poisoned by pesticides require hospitalization. Hospitalizations for pesticide poisoning may also represent patients who require monitoring over several days because of concurrent health conditions or other complications. These charts are for unintentional, non-occupational pesticide poisoning hospitalizations.

- Hospitalization rate by sex and age
- Hospitalization rate by region
Pesticide poisoning annual hospitalization rates
In general, hospitalization rates for pesticide poisonings are very low. The highest pesticide poisoning hospitalization was in 2024. Rates based on counts less than 20 are unstable should be interpreted in caution: they may not provide reliable estimates to evaluate trends over time.
Source: MN Hospital Association. The break indicates a change in International Classification of Disease (ICD) coding from ICD-9 to ICD-10 on October 1st, 2015. Rates from 2000-2014 should not be compared to rates from 2015 onward.

Pesticide poisoning hospitalization rates by age and sex
Males age 65 and older are hospitalized at a higher rate than other age/sex categories, but not significantly higher. Overall, males are hospitalized for pesticide poisoning more than females. This may be because males are more likely to use pesticides.

Pesticide poisoning hospitalization rates by region
Because hospitalizations for pesticide poisoning are so uncommon, it is difficult to measure the differences between Minnesota regions. There are no significant differences between regions. The Southeast region has the highest rate. These regional rates are adjusted for population size and age. Learn more from MDH about SCHSAC regions.
