Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Not all topics offer the option to map or query its data. If the topic data does not have data available at the county level, mapping or querying wouldn't be useful. Other topics have data with small counts (e.g., not many cases of a disease), so the data are not displayed to protect people's privacy.

To protect people's privacy, low counts are often suppressed (hidden). When this happens, maps and queries say "data not shown" or "suppressed". Refer to footnotes under charts and maps or visit the topic's "About the Data" page for more details.

Rates based on low counts should be interpreted with caution. A rate is unstable when there are few cases. The rate would change dramatically with one more or one less case. Refer to footnotes under charts and maps or visit the topic's "About the Data" page for more details.

Summary-level data is provided at the state and county level. Some Minnesota county data are not shown or are totaled to protect privacy. For example, query results for asthma hospitalizations in some Minnesota counties with small populations are not provided to protect the individual privacy of county residents.
